Within walking distance, you are likely to find locally craft beer, vintage guitars, hand-stitched jeans, and plenty of gourmet treats all in one trip.  Having so many attractions that are easily accessible from your home, it’s no wonder 12 South is a popular place to live!

History of 12 South

12 South, originally known as the Waverly Belmont community, was bustling in the 1940’s. Waverly Belmont fell into despair once the mid-20th century migration to the suburbs occurred. Developers began the restoration process of 12 South real estate in the 1990’s to it’s original splendor, and today it is a booming neighborhood. Foursquare homes and bungalows that date back to the early 20th century blend perfectly with the new construction and blocks of shops, restaurants and local businesses.

Local Attractions

12 South has something for everyone. Within walking distance, you can find several restaurants and bars along with great shopping. Some honorable mentions are: restaurants Edley’s Bar-B-Que and Urban Grub, a popular ice cream shop called Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, Imogene & Willie (known for their locally handmade jeans), Moda Boutique, Whites Merchantile, and Reese Witherspoon’s clothing store Draper James, Frothy Monkey (a local favorite coffee shop), and Las Paletas for delicious popsicles. For those keeping an active lifestyle, Fahrenheit Yoga, and Liberation Yoga offer classes for anyone to try out.

Some new tourist attractions in this area include many creative murals. The Iconic “I Believe in Nashville” mural lies just to the side of 12th Avenue South right next to Draper James. Another popular mural located in this area behind Frothy Monkey, is the “Nashville Looks Good on You” mural. If you are lucky enough, you may find Amelia’s Flower truck sitting out by Whites Merchantile for a bonus photo opportunity!

Fun fact.. one door down from Taqueria Del Sol (a mexican restaurant) to the south (unknown to most local people) is Dolly Parton’s rehearsal studio, a faux hacienda complex.
